131 Students in Two Days: What Ahlman’s Shooter’s Roundup Reminded Us About Minnesota Permit to Carry Training

Two days.

131 Minnesota Permit to Carry courses and shooting qualifications.

A lot of rounds downrange, a lot of conversations, a little friendly competition and one very busy Gun Permit Center team.

The 2026 Ahlman’s Shooter’s Roundup is officially behind us, and as we close out August, we finally have an opportunity to look back at what was an incredible weekend for Gun Permit Center.

The numbers are exciting. But after working with 131 students over one weekend, the bigger story isn’t really about a number.

It’s about the people behind it.

131 Students — and 131 Different Levels of Experience

One of the things we love about Minnesota Permit to Carry training is that there really isn’t a “typical” student.

Some people arrive at the range having shot firearms for years.

Others are relatively new handgun owners.

Some are completing their Minnesota Permit to Carry renewal and have been through the process before.

Others are taking their first MN Permit to Carry class and aren’t quite sure what to expect when it’s time for the shooting qualification.

We saw all of them at Ahlman’s.

And that’s an important reminder for anyone considering getting their Minnesota Permit to Carry: you don’t have to be an expert shooter before you start your training.

Training is part of the process.

Questions are welcome.

And everyone starts somewhere.

The Shooting Qualification Doesn’t Have to Be Intimidating

We hear some version of this concern all the time:

“What if I’m not a great shooter?”

For some students, the shooting portion is the part they’re most nervous about.

Then they actually get to the range.

They listen to the safety briefing. They settle in. They take their time.

And very often, they walk away wondering why they were so nervous in the first place.

That doesn’t mean we lower expectations.

Safety always comes first.

During a weekend as busy as Ahlman’s Shooter’s Roundup, that becomes even more important. Moving a large number of students through a shooting qualification never means rushing people through the firing line or compromising safe firearm handling.

Whether we’re working with one student or 131, the standard doesn’t change.

Sometimes It Gets a Little Competitive, Too

Then there are the students who aren’t nervous at all.

They’re trying to beat their spouse.

Their buddy.

Their coworker.

Or sometimes they’re just trying to prove something to themselves.

And we love that part of it, too.

There was plenty of competition, encouragement and good-natured banter throughout the weekend — including among our own instructors.

Because firearm training can be serious without being miserable.

We want students to understand the responsibilities that come with carrying a firearm. We also want them to have an experience that makes them interested in continuing to learn, practice and become more proficient after their permit class is over.

A Minnesota Permit to Carry class shouldn’t be the end of someone’s firearms education.

For many people, it’s the beginning.

What Happens After the Online MN Permit to Carry Course?

The basic Gun Permit Center process is straightforward:

4. Receive your training certificate.

Friday Morning, 67 More Certificates Went Into the Mail

Sometimes the scale of an event doesn’t really hit you until a few days later.

For us, one of those moments happened Friday morning.

67 completion certificates went into the mail.

Each envelope represented an actual person we interacted with at Shooter’s Roundup.

Someone getting their first permit.

Someone renewing.

Someone who may have walked up to the booth simply wondering what Gun Permit Center was and ended up completing their training.

Seeing that stack of certificates was pretty special.

But none of those certificates happen without the people behind the scenes.

Our Instructors Made 131 Possible

We can’t talk about this weekend without talking about our instructor team.

Working a high-volume event isn’t easy.

There are students to check in, questions to answer, firearms to manage, firing lines to control, targets to evaluate, paperwork to complete and — above everything else — safety standards that cannot slip simply because things get busy.

What we saw throughout the weekend was exactly what we hope our instructor team represents.

Communication.

Engagement.

Drive.

Encouragement.

Competition.

Plenty of banter.

And a group of people willing to jump in wherever they were needed.

131 completed courses and shooting qualifications doesn’t happen because of a booth. It happens because of people.

To every instructor who helped make the weekend happen: thank you.

A Milestone Year for Gun Permit Center

Ahlman’s Shooter’s Roundup also came during what has already been a milestone year for Gun Permit Center.

Before August was even over, we reached a point that means a lot to our team: we officially surpassed our total course orders from all of last year.

There are still several months left in 2026, and seeing that kind of continued growth is something we’re incredibly grateful for.

But growth, for us, isn’t simply about selling more Minnesota Permit to Carry courses.

Every course order represents someone trusting us with part of their firearms training journey.

It represents students telling friends and family about their experience. Instructors representing Gun Permit Center in communities across Minnesota. Relationships we’ve built with ranges and local businesses. And people finding us while looking for a flexible, straightforward way to complete their Minnesota Permit to Carry training.

That’s the kind of growth we’re proud of.

And it’s something we don’t take for granted.
